Hi, I'm Carlo Mitchener

Entrepreneur, inventor and CEO (or as I prefer, Captain) of MrlyProd, Inc.

Born (October 7th 1998) and raised in Brussels, Belgium — French, Italian, American, and Belgian.

  • shop/ is the store pipeline and site/ the pages of carlomitchener.com.
  • The mrlyprod Rust repo is the research code: the MrlyMath crates.

Commands

Run from site/, except bun aws/site.ts, which runs from the repo root.

  • bun run kit - fetch mrlyprod/sites/kit at the sha in kit.lock into data/kit/; KIT=<path> copies a local checkout instead.
  • bun run snapshot - the live Shopify products into data/shop.json.
  • bun run fake - the same file, invented, so the site builds with no shop.
  • bun run build - render every page into dist/, /git/ and /raw/ too.
  • bun run push - upload what changed, delete what went, never touch cdn/ or art/.
  • bun run dev - build once, then serve dist/ on port 3000.
  • bun aws/site.ts - the builder Lambda: commit, snapshot, build, push, head.
  • The builder takes {"source":"push|schedule|automator|manual","sha":"..."}; only automator rebuilds a sha that has not moved.

MrlyProd

Inspired by the Bob Marley documentary (2012), I created a PSN account named "Im_Mrly", then a YouTube channel "zMrly" (2013) where I made Photoshop art, MW2 montages, and skateboard edits. The name stuck.

MrlyMath

I was designing a new logo for MrlyProd (2017). I was looking for a written mark that when collapsed would become a figurative mark. That turned out to be a square with four holes in it. Which turned out to be the first iteration of the next Sierpinski Carpet. I had no idea what fractals were at the time. Now I know...

MrlyLogo

The MrlyLogo has 21 fill squares and 4 void squares for a total of 25 grid squares in a 5×5 grid. It generalizes to one (tree), two (carpet) and three (sponge) dimensions. It resembles the ancient Sun Cross.

MrlyFont

A primitive 5x5 font can be derived from the logo. Designing it has been a fun experience that puts into question the complexity of the Latin alphabet.

`` 11111 10101 11111 10101 11111 ``

The Road To Infinity

MrlyProd's mission is to apply MrlyMath in any way possible. Imagine a world where everything was... mrlybricked!

Beyond Code

  • Photographer — thousands of shots on a Leica R4S
  • Bird — captured at the Grand Canyon (2012)
  • Musician — guitar, piano
  • Painter — 10+ oil paintings
  • Inventor — MagTop; a controllable spinning top
  • Minimath — aspiring polymath, work in progress
